LegalHealth’s Project Assist provides free legal services to family caregivers of older adults and adults with disabilities. The project works to decrease the barriers faced by family caregivers who are making legal and healthcare decisions in the best interest of their loved ones as well as to empower care recipients to choose and direct their care. Furthermore, we help to increase financial and housing stability of care recipients and relieve some of the stress experienced by family caretakers.
There are very few legal services providers representing families in Article 17A guardianships for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities, Project Assist fills this gap through our culturally competent and informed legal support. Along with Article 17A guardianship, Project Assist handles cases related to employment, Medicaid, home care, housing, SSI, and advance planning.
LegalHealth works in partnership with community sites, like Brooklyn Heights and Hills, Sunnyside Community Services, JASA, and the JCC, providing trainings to the staff and providing holistic legal services to their clients.
