(NEW YORK, NY) April 20, 2020: Leading legal services organization New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) has launched the NY COVID-19 Legal Resource Hotline to help New York City residents impacted by COVID-19 (coronavirus) to get answers to their legal questions. Those affected can call 929-356-9582 from 10 am-1 pm Monday-Fridays to leave a message. A NYLAG representative will follow-up in two business days. The hotline is currently available in Spanish and English.

“The coronavirus crisis is having a devastating impact on New Yorkers with low income and the toll is likely to be felt for years. NYLAG is responding to the emerging needs with a COVID-19 hotline to provide legal assistance on a range of issues on housing, employment, public benefits, consumer rights, among others. We want everyone in need of legal help to know that NYLAG is here for you. Our services are free. Give the hotline a call and talk to one of our experts. We can help.” said NYLAG President & Attorney-in-Charge Beth Goldman.

“We’re all affected by COVID-19, but for those who have lost jobs, have limited income, or are experiencing poverty this crisis can be extra hard. If you’re in NY & have legal issues, give NYLAG’s new NY COVID-19 Legal Resource Hotline a call. They can help,” tweeted Sunny Hostin, ABC’s The View Co-host

“UJA-Federation has proudly partnered with NYLAG for decades – helping all New Yorkers access high-quality civil legal services,” said Eric S. Goldstein, CEO, UJA-Federation of New York. “In this most challenging time, NYLAG’s new hotline will literally be a lifeline for New York’s most vulnerable residents. We are grateful to all the pro-bono lawyers and staff at NYLAG for all they do day in and day out, but especially today.”

“Arab-American Association of New York serves Arab and Muslim immigrant New Yorkers, many of whom were already experiencing civil legal problems before the coronavirus pandemic,” said Marwa Janini, Executive Director of Arab-American Association of New York. “COVID-19 has only exacerbated these issues, and some of our clients are facing difficult choices due to economic hardship. NYLAG’s hotline will give our clients a much-needed place to turn for counsel on their emerging legal issues related to the global pandemic.”

“The Chinese-American Planning Council has worked with NYLAG to improve the lives of New York City’s immigrants for many years,” said Wayne Ho, President & CEO of the Chinese-American Planning Council. “Immigrant New Yorkers already facing severe difficulties under the current immigration landscape are among the most vulnerable to the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. NYLAG’s hotline will be of great value to our clients and we look forward to having this new resource.”

The NY COVID-19 Legal Resource Hotline can offer advice on the following:

  • Advanced Planning (Standby Guardianship, Power of Attorney, Healthcare Proxy, Wills)
  • Consumer Debt (Debt Collection, Wage Garnishment)
  • Employee Rights (Paid Leave, FMLA, Working Conditions)
  • Housing (Eviction, Rent Arrears, Foreclosure, Mortgage Relief Options)
