People living in health harming conditions deserve a safe living environment
Housing and health are inextricably connected, and for too many tenants, the unsafe conditions in their home can cause reoccurring hospital visits and stays. LegalHealth is dedicated to advocating for tenants whose landlords haven’t made requested and required health harming repairs, like eliminating the presence of mold and vermin. Healthy Homes’ staff attorney represents tenants in HP actions, fighting for New York City tenants’ basic human right to safe and stable housing. This program is funded by Our Mother of Cabrini Health Foundation.
Healthy Homes staff trains and educates health care professionals on the right to live in a healthy environment so they can make appropriate referrals to our LegalHealth clinics and have adequate tools to support the actions with medical evidence. Since May 2026, LegalHealth has worked in collaboration with Pediatrician, Michelle Glick, MA, MA, FAAP, and recipient of a United Hospital Fund fellowship to advance community-driven solutions to health disparities throughout New York. Dr. Glick is working with Healthy Homes to train pediatricians on improving documentation for safe housing advocacy and formalizing pathways to address housing related health disparities.
